CCTV Commissioning Checklist

Pre-Visit Preparation

  • Confirm site access, permit-to-work, and nominated site contact.
  • Review camera schedule, lens selection, recording retention, and analytics requirements.
  • Download the latest firmware and configuration tools (Hikvision SADP, Dahua ConfigTool, Hanwha Wisenet Device Manager) and store them on your field laptop.

System Power-Up

  1. Label every camera channel and check supply voltage/PoE budget before energising.
  2. Document MAC/IP assignments and VLANs in the commissioning sheet so future engineers can audit the install.
  3. Change default credentials on cameras, recorders, and switches. Store unique passphrases in the secure credential vault.

Image & Recording Checks

  • Tune exposure, WDR, and IR intensity for day/night scenes and capture reference snapshots for the project pack.
  • Force motion/analytics events to confirm alarms arrive in the log and trigger any ARC/pager workflows.
  • Run a storage calculator to prove retention (e.g., 31+ days) at the configured bitrate and FPS.

Handover Artifacts

  • Export configuration backups (XML/JSON) for each device and upload them to the shared “CCTV Config Backups” folder.
  • Update the as-built drawing with camera IDs, IP addresses, switch ports, and PoE loads.
  • Log outstanding defects/recommendations in the service ticket so nothing is missed during client sign-off.
